T. SUNNY KHAMAPIRAD, M.D.
Dr. Tawan Sunny Khamapirad (Dr. Sunny) was born in Bangkok, Thailand. He immigrated to the United States, settled in Houston, Texas in 1977, and is a naturalized citizen of the United States. He graduated from Klein I.S.D public schools and obtained a Bachelor of Science in both Biochemistry/Biophysics and Biology from The University of Houston in Houston, Texas. Dr. Sunny graduated medical school from Baylor College of Medicine with the class of 1997 in Houston, Texas. He completed one year of Transitional Residency at Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals and Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. During his three year residency, he was mentored by Dr. Rick Sievers, Dr. Brad Priester, and Dr. Lance Gordon. He enjoyed the challenges posed by retinal disorders and endeavored to learn more about this frontier of Ophthalmology. Therefore, he completed an additional two years of Retina Fellowship training at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Sunny was recruited back to Memphis by his former mentors and joined Mid-South Retina in 2003. He practiced for two years in Memphis and relocated to Jackson, Tennessee in 2005. Currently, Dr. Sunny is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology with a license to practice medicine in Tennessee and Mississippi.  He practices full time medical and surgical retina in Jackson, Tennessee. Also, he practices medical retina at a satellite practice in Corinth, Mississippi one day per week. 
 
Dr. Sunny has been happily married since 1997 to his wife Anne, and they have 2 children. Dr. Sunny is passionate about photography and travel. He enjoys activities such as Thai cooking, virtual reality, 3D printing, video gaming, and gardening. He is an active volunteer and donor for South Gibson High School Band, South Gibson Middle School Beta Club, and South Gibson Middle and High School Robotics Teams. He is an active donor to South Gibson County Shooting Sports and the Jackson Youth Symphony.
